After sharing some tidbits re: natural products I douse my babes with, I received requests to write of products I currently use for my sensitive-crazed skin. The skincare + more line, Homemade Betty and I have become fast friends.
I must first disclaim that the products I use may not make friends with your face, hair, body, mind. Admittedly, I avoid certain beauty/skincare lines because of all the shit added to give you a fall sense that they are doing some good (i.e. lathering, color, smell, logo, word choice), but I also pay mind to how they may impact my body. Coming from a scrub-me-violently-clean past, it’s taken many moons to learn that over-cleansing the skin + hair can be just as harmful, if not moreso, than a simple oil-based cleanser. Just as my skin peels and itches at the thought of harsh chemicals, my brain is becoming more attuned to the impact each product, each bottle, has on our beautiful earthy residence.
Every day I aim to get a little lighter in my footprints.
And thus, in waltzes Homemade Betty.
Not only is the woman (momma of 3) behind the Homemade Betty brand super mindful of her actions and what each product encompasses, the products are genuinely working. I was ecstatic upon opening the box–the lavender accompanying the products seriously uplifted my waking hours! Going that extra li’l step grabs straight for my heart palps. Most likely because I’ve toiled away hefty mounds of cash to try out new organic, vegan, natural products only to find that they DO. NOT. DELIVER.
For about a week, I’ve been using Homemade Betty’s butters and BO cremes as reviewed below (Using the upmost unbiased and honest sentiments, of course):
Organic Lavender BO Creme-Deodorant
I had to start right at the pit of the matter, because I’ve been searching long+hard to find an organic, handmade deoderant that functions like a bossy lady should. And I put this one through the ringer since Day One. That day found me walking ’round town with a bosom comrade, pushing my babe up hills/hollers. Then off to a local grocer, off to chores ’round the abode, then off to meditation and yoga. Before yoga, I gave a super long sniff test and found no stench = wheeee!
With a “normal” deodorant, I would’ve taken this opportunity to re-apply, but I felt froggy and wanted to see how it held up to the dogs and goddesses of my yoga practice. When I arrived back home, I still had to tuck, tuck, tuck in my tot and then push out some solid writing. Before laying down ’round midnight, I could have shouted my enthusiasm to whiff un-smelly pits (alas, I would’ve woken my babe and opted for a few grand-jetes). Though there was zero stench, I used this moment to reapply and did not notice any stickiness or chafing of any sort.
Side note: Using my fingers to swipe out the creme took a hot minute to wrap my brain ’round, but now that I’ve been doing it for a week, it no longer feels alien. In fact, I kind of dig it because I am now more mindful of where the product is being applied. In using this technique, one does not need massive amounts to feel groovy; and thus, the $9.99 price point is pretty awesome when compared to the price of aluminum-filled sticks taunting you at every marketplace.
What products do you currently use and why? I’d love to hear about your skincare routines–elaborate, educate on!
